Reopening of the Foreign Interests Section of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran – May 03, 2026.

U.S. citizens should not travel to Iran for any reason and should leave Iran if they are there. Iran continues to be a Level 4: Do Not Travel destination per the U.S. Travel Advisory for Iran.

As of October 15, 2025, consular services available for U.S. citizens in Iran have been adjusted. Routine consular services, including acceptance of applications for full-validity passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) applications, and fee-based notarial services, are no longer available. This change reinforces the travel advice to U.S. citizens: Do Not Travel to Iran

The Foreign Interests Section will continue to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens, including Consular Report of Death Abroad (CRDA) applications, emergency financial assistance, assistance to detained U.S. nationals, and welfare and whereabouts checks for U.S. citizens when security conditions permit.

Distribution of retirement and Social Security benefits will also resume

The submission of emergency passport applications remains suspended until further notice.

Preparations for the resumption of all emergency consular services are currently underway. We will communicate all updates on this website.
